This is a miscalculation of historic proportions for several reasons.

      Martin has to go.

Who is he under pressure from though? It certainly isn’t the media

    3. > One party source called Mr Gavin’s short-lived campaign “a complete and utter fuck up from top to bottom”.

It’s the country that’s a laughing stock for still voting for a bunch of charlatans like FF. The joke is on us.

    5. No-Outside6067 on

Why did FF let him go on the debate and contradict the facts they knew to be true because the tenant in question provided them all the receipts the day before.

Lol they were always a laughing stock look at the state of everything in Ireland and tell me what’s not to laugh at.. housing crisis, hospital beds and the abomination of a children’s hospital overspend, homelessness and anything else.. anything or anybody pushed by FFG is bad for Irish people

    7. Snoo-65915 on

My only thought is will he pay back the tenant now??? With interest preferably!!!!

    8. Aggravating-Fun7486 on

If Jim Gavin was the only reason, they’d be doing fine.

    9. Any political bias aside – how did they think this would be a good idea – I’d imagine he’s popular in Dublin but that’s it. Crazy choice

I don’t think anyone cares about the tenant.  It’s nasty but nobody’s perfect.  He could’ve just apologized and repaid the tenant.

Anyone who thinks the orange order equates to loyalism is wrong.  The orange order is a horrible sectarian organization akin to the klu klux klan sowing and spreading hatred.  There’s no need for Catholics and Protestant to hate each other but the orange order thrives off that division and hatred.

Humphreys is much more problematic than Gavin and she’s still running.  Gavin’s departure doesn’t make any sense.

I don’t really understand what they were trying to do. It’s frankly a bit unfair to put an inexperienced candidate into that kind of position in the first place. The presidency is extremely personal and it’s a huge leap and can be a very rough campaign even compared to a Dáil seat – both Humphreys and Connolly have a lot of high profile political experience and have contested elections.

They had other options, not just Bertie.

I don’t think you can just assume FF votes will go to Heather Humphreys either – some will, some won’t.

You’re now into an election systems mess too where he could still be on the ballot papers without a campaign.

All Fianna Fáil representatives on the radio and no one will say anything bad about Michael Martin. He absolutely fucked it and it’s massively embarrassing for him and the party.

Let’s face it though. Do we expect anything less than greed from anyone associated with FF.

FF have a brass neck, no doubt they will be blaming someone one else for their celebrity short comings

One of the most disrespectful election campaigns I’ve ever lived through.l, in terms of both the candidates proposed, who at best could be described as “meh”, and in terms of process.

It’s not like as if this election was a surprise to any of the candidates, or parties – we’ve known about it for at least 7 years and still – the utter lacklustre nonsense being put forward.

So disrespectful for a position that represents us to the world.

    15. daheff_irl on

In MM’s panic to exclude Bertie, he backed an even worse horse.

    16. EchoOfSingularity on

Yeah, they are laughing stock because of Jim. Not for the last 17 years of continuous failure of improving anything in this country. Not for ruining housing, not for bailing out banks, not for the longest Covid lockdown in Europe, not for letting groceries prices run amok or building 0 amount of public transportation … it’s Jim yeah. Yasus.

and the joke is on the Irish people for repeatedly voting for this shower of morons

    18. Fun-Needleworker-794 on

It’s incredible how FF went from the grassroots movement of our country to a top down Parliamentary Party where nobody can outwardly question the boss

    19. Rogue7559 on

Would’nt it be symbolic if 3,300 in dodgy rent payments took down the Taoiseach

    20. rimbroglio on

Was the point just to run a lemon who could then step out leaving the FG candidate a stronger anti-Connolly base? I get the feeling they really, really don’t want her in there

    21. standarsh1965 on

He literally helped cripple the country and people still voted for him, what does it matter if he’s a laughing stock, theirs still idiots that will vote for him
