The German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) has signed a contract for the purchase of 20 Eurofighters worth a total of €3,75 billion. The German Parliament’s (Bundestag) Budget Committee is reportedly expected to approve the tender this week, with the first aircraft scheduled for delivery in 2031 and the final five in 2034.

The Bundeswehr intends to use the new Eurofighters to cover the period until 2040, when production of the FCAS, a German-French-Spanish project for the development of a sixth-generation multirole fighter system, is scheduled to begin. This project’s development is currently at risk.

Interesting development. It’ll be worth seeing how this impacts their long-term defense planning

Can these be delivered quickly? Like 3 years ish? Seems an aweful lot of dough. Meanwhile Russia is still pumping out jets, about 60 annually.

We really need an truely European jet, without France and Germany being silly about nonsense. We need to have the ability to “mass” produce 1 or 2 types, and use them across Europe. So we too can upscale production to a level if we need to.
