If they wanted an important point of law clarified, then they should have followed their own laws.
They didn’t, which is why the Court found that it did not have jurisdiction and threw out the case.

Like, the reason it was thrown out was a technicality due to how it was charged, its not like he was cleared with jeopardy attached (not sure what the non-US TV Crime show way of phrasing that is).
