The Fine Gael to retirement grifter pipeline. Do nothing as taoiseach then complain about the current Taoiseach yet Varadkar did nothing to push for a border poll while Taoiseach himself

> Meanwhile Varadkar added that he does agree with Martin that “it is not yet the right time to set a date for a border poll”.
We’ve so many other important issues, border pole can wait. As much as I’d love a united ireland I think it’ll be another while before it’s the right time.
And right now the people have more pressing issues in almost every department..

Failing to begin preparation for a border poll seems to be an act of great social and political negligence by the government given that the timing of the poll is not something they can control.
Given the catalyst of a Reform led UK and PM Farage in the immediate future it is necessary to begin preparations now so that when the time comes we don’t find ourselves completely unprepared and facing another Brexit-type situation

We need more cross-community North-South projects, especially in the arts and in schools so that the two communities get to know each other and like each other.

We need more mature conversations about unity. Right now some people down the south talk about it as if it’s more of annexation rather than a uniting. Look at some of the rhetoric surrounding Heather Humphreys background.
I agree with the comments that we better start preparing better, if we’re serious and just paying lip service.

If you make some nebulous idea of reconciliation a prerequisite for having a poll, you only embolden those opposed to it, who can just flat out refuse to engage with nationalists in the hope of preserving the status quo. At the end of the day its going to come down to a headcount and 51% in favour will be enough.
