Gli “hamburger” vegetariani potrebbero essere in via di eliminazione poiché i legislatori dell’UE sostengono il divieto di etichettatura degli alimenti a base vegetale

I wonder how thick someone over the age of 8 has to be to think a veggie burger has meat in it

    2. Natural_Task9025 on

I’m a vegetarian so I eat a lot of veggie burgers and the like… so I may be biased. But how is soemthing being labelled “veggie burger/vegetarian sausage” confusing ?? The explanation is right there , pal

    3. GerbertVonTroff on

Such nonsense. How that could ever confuse anyone is beyond me.

Is Ciaran Mullooly always this much of a twat?

More support for woke-nanny-state-health-and-safety-gone-mad-lefty-liberal-culture-warrior language policing from Independent Ireland’s Ciaran Mullooly:

      >The move was also welcomed by Independent Ireland MEP Ciaran Mullooly.

      >He said the use of phrases such as veggie burger is “misleading” and added that EU lawmakers had “applied common sense” and have “brought an end to the confusion consumers have had to endure

I am struggling to imagine how someone, other than elected members of Independent Ireland, could be stupid enough to get confused by the term “veggie burger”.

      >“Our data shows that almost 70% of European consumers understand these names as long as products are clearly labelled vegan or vegetarian,”

Tbf, 30% is a lot more idiots than I expected.

Has to be some kind of ulterior motive behind this one right?

    7. We already have warnings on packets of peanuts that they may contain nuts, so is anyone actually surprised that your taxes are paying people to implement such stupidly ridiculous laws?

    8. him_name_pick_good on

Disappointing but not surprising. Agribusiness can block things being called sausages, burgers, milks and so on but everyone calls them as such anyway.

Such measures are also ultimately shortsighted since farming is among the most vulnerable occupations to be affected by climate change and regardless of what the IFA or other lobbyists say, will need to come to terms with the hard ecological limits sooner or later.

      >He expressed hope that similar changes could be made to the dairy sector to “address the misuse of terms such as ‘almond milk’”.

Dear Lord, is this what Ciaran Mullooly actually gets paid for?

Are we still allowed use the term “EU gravy train”, even though it’s not a mode of transport covered in meat-based sauce?

Would these people ever gway and fuck off and do something that’s actually useful FOR ONCE

    11. Embarrassed-Fault973 on

This is the French farmers mostly. It’s a load of nonsense and will just make the EU look stupid to a lot of people in countries that lean more veggie. Culture wars and traditionalist b/s tbh dressed up as concern about labelling.

Nobody is confused about a burger not containing meat any more than they’re confused about veggie sausages. This is just the usual non-transparent lobbying that goes on in Europe around regulation.

I think it would be reasonable to rename certain pâtes “high fat, pulverised offal paste” I mean, people could get confused…

Such absolute horseshit. The Healy Raes of the world will be delighted.

Burger is short for hamburger, so surely a chicken burger is also poor labeling, and thus confusing to the average consumer?

I would assume fish fingers are the fingers of a fish?

And fuck me they better not have been lying about hot dogs.

    13. BruceWaynesWorld on

Good thing too. How else would we be sure that they are made of ham?

    14. SpeedwellPluviophile on

This is a ridiculous decision and needs to be protested.

Shout out to an old ex girlfriend of mine who went through a vegetarian phase in the late 90’s and used to horse down spice burgers a couple of times a week. The poor girl was under some insane impression that they contained no meat and there was no convincing her otherwise. She thought they were like some big flat falafel type patty with spices that gave a meat like flavor to it.

I can only assume she went to the chipper in the mood for something other than a battered cod, asked one of the lads behind the counter for a vegetarian option and the cheeky bollix convinced her that a spice burger was the way to go.

    16. Black and white puddings are a shit dessert, better change their names too.

    17. warnie685 on

Is he implying meat eaters types are thick?

“Independent Ireland MEP Ciaran Mullooly said the ban would ‘bring an end to the confusion consumers have had to endure’.”

    18. chonkykais16 on

The meat and dairy lobby are so fucked up fr. First they came after sausages and bacon and milk. Who cares? No one’s going to accidentally buy a vegetarian burger. They’re *very* clearly labelled.

      >Independent Ireland MEP Ciaran Mullooly said the ban would ‘bring an end to the confusion consumers have had to endure’.

In fairness he’s representing his voter base well.

Independent Ireland voters find a lot of very basic concepts extremely confusing.

One of the stupidest most blatant examples of capitulation to the meat and livestock lobbies.
