I wonder how much they bought it for. It was on sale for 1.5m.

I think it’d be a money pit if it was opened just as a cinema.

Small population and cinema attendance gone way down.

Show Mickey Rourke films exclusively. Maybe Eric Roberts movies also on the weekend.

“It was bought late last year by visual artist Yvonne McGuinness and her husband, Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy”

Now a true multimillionaire community philanthropist would have stumped up the funds required themselves rather than bother the tax players would could have funded something else.

Dingle has no small to medium size venue for music, theatre etc. Other Voices and some traditional sessions use St James church – capacity about 100. St Mary’s is used for very occasional big concerts. The Díseart (old convent) has small spaces but it’s more suitable for exhibitions etc. There are several halls and venues west of the town but none are dedicated solely to the arts. The Phoenix could be a vibrant hub. And it’s#d be great to avoid the building becoming yet another derelict site. And the new owners will be investing time, energy and money into it.

It’d be wonderful to see similar happening in towns up and down the country.

    5. They began the project already before this State funding, including 2 rounds (so far, with more dates) of public consultations with community. First was open and the rest are invitational.

Great, sure a million is peanuts and Dingle is lively. Ryan’s Daughter should be on constantly and The Field in a lengthy double bill.
