I call bullshit, there are lots of barbers, gambling shops, halal eateries, vape shops and the funny mobile phone case shops that don’t appear to actually do anything.

Oh no! Wont anyone think of the money laundering fronts and / or vape shops!

I’m guilty of buying almost everything online. Groceries is the only thing I mostly buy in shops. I can see why so many are doing the same as me.

But labour keep saying they have created more jobs and the high streets are getting better?

With rent or mortgage collecting half of peoples’ income, there is little left for anything else other than the bare basics for survival.

Entertainment, resturants, the high street etc will continue to struggle until something drastic happens.

Business rates and energy costs are killing small businesses right now, I know a few small business owners they are really struggling right now to stay afloat, the juice has already been squeezed at this point.

Can’t take them seriously when they use such ridiculously dramatic language.

    9. Honestly the high street is dead and any shop selling something you can easily buy online from Amazon is on borrowed time.

Let’s demolish the construct of a shopping town centre and push to move it into social centres.

Good food, good drink, nice areas to sit, public libraries, coffee shops, gaming centres, food markets, restaurants etc. Build a public place that is safe, maintained and makes people want to go spend their lunch there.

Clothing stores should move to having stock of everything and every size, so you can try anything on and then have it delivered next day to your home.

Kill off the mobile phone shops, kill off the vape stores, kill off the cloned barbers. Etc.

High street culture needs to take a leaf out of Asias book.

Open shops, cafes and businesses later. Get rid of the Sunday crap. Improve connections to the city centre. Provide covered shopping streets or invest in department stores. Not every business needs to occupy the entire building for Christ’s sake. Cut rent and business taxes for those opening businesses.

Aside from that people need to be more considerate. Stop walking eating and smoking. Stop littering. Be quieter. Be more polite towards others. Basically just be considerate. Be willing to use public transport and stop expecting to be able to drive right up to every single business you need.

Also councils need to get a grip. Most seem to have genuinely no idea of what the town centre needs. Many are spending 10s of millions on vanity projects while the town centre remains dead, it’s shocking.
