Getting to a sub 2-hour journey from Cork-Dublin will be a real game-changer – 20% quicker than the same journey by road at that point

No it won’t. The Thurles trains will still arrive in Heuston and then people are delayed for ages on the Luas sits in car traffic. At least Greystones arrives into Connolly and Pearse

Article also says they’re keen to get a half hourly service at peak times between Dublin and Cork within 3 to 5 years, which would also be great, as well as further time savings. I wonder is the plan there for cascaded older commuter rolling stock from the Dart+ trains to be used, once the new trains there come in?

First time I think I’ve seen the 200km/h given as a goal with only on track upgrades,so no big track realignments. Getting Cork-Dublin under the 2 hours would be great, and give a very big selling point to rail over driving/the bus.

Great news, what I really want is a train that runs later than 9pm. I’d hope that an 11pm train would put a nail in the coffin of Dublin Coach, and outliving that awful business is what gets me up in the morning

All great ideas, but not one date was specific – lots of “within a decade”, “in the next few years”… Have been listening to that kind of talk about rail projects for, well, a lot longer than a decade.

Still, it is good that there is a plan. Hopefully we see more of it than not.

Given a lot of the delays on Cork-Dub relate to congestion, they’d need to extend the quad tracking further down the line. Was a shelved Celtic Tiger plan iirc.

Can we make Greystones as accessible as Bray next?

Jealous of all the planned infrastructure improvement the south is getting, doubt anything will improve up here in the north with the state of our government

If only this technology existed sooner!

      …oh, wait…

So that’s another €200k onto the value of every house within 20 minutes of Thurles.

We’ll hardly see that in the LPT returns.

See Transport 21. This is just more pie in the sky talk. FF and FG have this down to a fine art.

Hopefully this bears fruit. I’d love to see it.

This is the benefit of having the Greens in government – projects that we all want. It’s just such a pity they were decimated in the last election, they didn’t deserve it at all.

I plan to solve the housing crisis.

Do I also get a pat in the back and a newspaper article for such flights of fantasy?
