Yes. They probably assume it will have a retirement age of 5 so the rest of EU can pay their pensions

Further European integration would add €3 trillion in value every year according to a major study. That’s four times the entire US defence budget.

In other words: don’t spend more but spend better. A European Army would be both stronger and cheaper. It’s a no-brainer.

And the sovereignty argument doesn’t hold water either, because currently Europeans are fully dependent on Washington. That’s not sovereignty.

Ofc we need a European army. With brigades of different countries maybe but 1 army.

This could make one optimistic but then you read about FCAS and you realize that if three European countries can’t even agree on building a fighter jet together there is no way a European military will be a reality anytime soon.

The survey was on 1001 people.
And the real conclusion is :
67% of French people say **they support the principle of a common security and defense policy within the European Union**, i.e., the sharing of human and material resources, technologies, and military investments between European Union countries, including 51% who are somewhat in favor and 16% who are very much in favor. Conversely, 32% are opposed, including 23% who are somewhat opposed and 9% who are very opposed.

That’s quite different from supporting a european army.

“Should there be European Army?” is wholy different from “Should there be army of the European Union ? ”
and that is wholy entirely different from “Should the Army of France be part and under the command of European union Army.”

    7. Add follow up question. EU army but under under French command 😉

At least someone had a lot of fun coming up with the color scheme

It’s odd how often often that something I think was posted to r/dataisugly turns out to be r/europe instead.

    10. Everyone in Europe supports the idea of a European army, but nobody wants to join or spend money on it.

    11. Staylin_Alive on

Won’t happen unless EU exclude all inconsonant members and transfer control of the entire army to one country.

    12. chakraman108 on

      Under the French command? 😂
No, thanks. That’s where the idea ends.

They should do 2 follow up questions:

Would you be willing to pay higher taxes for said army?

      And

Would you serve in said army or send your children to serve?

    14. BaritBrit on

I bet they do. Now tell them they wouldn’t be in operational command of it, and that in order to be effective sometimes this combined force would have to operate in a way not conducive to French strategic interests, and see what happens to the number then.

    15. Renomont on

France supports the creation of a European Army so that they can be in charge.

    16. Anyone who wants an european Army should consider this:
      What about Veto rights?
What about the Bad Relations between some european countries?
Who should and could be time Commander in Chief?
Are you, as a german for example, willing to shoot morokkans because the french have different objektives?
What about the different doctrines in each Military?
For example German soldiers have to disobey their Commander If the commands are against the law and each soldier is personally responsible for His actions.

Of course, they want to surrender for everyone else too :))

source : bva ? mdr. no. i m against it. ue is not a country. i dont want eu to be a country and to dissolve my country.

We could have a well-equipped European Army under a joint command of France and Poland, thereby representing both West and East Europe. Perhaps add Scandinavia as a third. Focus on reliable tech and vast amounts of easily deployable ABC weapons.

I think that if is a great idea but I would have thought that France would be more against it – great for them
