      It’s fine they also have more social care and SEN kids to pay for.

      Well yes, that’s what happens when you spend more than you can afford, you get poorer and poorer.

      I wonder what would happen if the government gave councils lump sums they could use to sensibly invest in profitable ventures. If they made rational choices, their investments would make enough money to cover the costs of their expenditure and from that point they wouldn’t require any further money from the government. That way our taxes wouldn’t need to increase every 6 months.

      I’m hoping devolution will help councils get back on their feet, but we’ll just have to see
