Isn’t the issue because the embassy site is directly above the fibre optics that go into the financial heart of London?
It’s a plot that’s straight out of Homeland.

I think the Government need to listen to the cast of Grange Hill on this one and Just Say No.

Imagine any foreign country wanting to buy any mildly important building to build their embassy in China. They would be laughed out of the room. I have no idea why we afford China these opportunities when it would NEVER be returned to us.
Then again the UK seem to have some sort of fetish for selling off any important sites or industries for a quick pound then regretting it for easily foreseeable reasons years later… clown show with zero sense of national pride.

Why this is even debatable? Get them plot away from important buildings or infrastructure especially internet cables or exchange points. Scale building back to average size and sorted.
Or I m missing something?

Why is this country so scared of telling someone to fuck off?

Just give them a nondescript warehouse in Swindon or something. Who’s fucking country is it?

I think any embassy is a spy risk. No doubt that spies will work there. Just like I’m sure that the American embassy , which undoubtedly could also be called a mega embassy, has spy operations happening (especially with the current Trump administration trying to promote Reform). I think allowing the Chinese embassy would be good for relations. Perhaps they could reroute the fiber optic cables and have the Chinese pay for it.
