I mean… You have the Myvatn somewhere in the northeast, and I think Myvatn translates to mosquito lake. And when I was there 2016(?) it was full of these bastards.

Mosquitos thrive in far colder climates than Iceland. Their absence there is probably a mere fluke due to Icelands isolation and its relatively young age, a mere 20ish million years.
I got plenty of bites there this summer. Can confirm. There were more than 3.
