The German government on Wednesday said it will initiate an unscheduled expenditure to cover the salaries of around 11,000 local employees working at US bases in Germany who have been affected by the US government shutdown. Not paying people violates German labor laws. The unions were involved in this.

They expect the US government to reimburse the state once the shutdown’s over.

      > The German government anticipates being reimbursed for the payroll cost once the US side makes payment, according to the spokeswoman.

    3. “Hey military guys! You’re not getting paid right? Well… we’ll pay all the Germans who work for you. But we’re not going to pay you (obviously). Now do you see how developed countries work and look after their people?”

Next, Germany will provide a food kitchen and 2nd hand clothes for the US soldiers and families.

Why didn’t the Germans offer to pay for all US government employees.

If you want to bend over, why not go all way.

      Next up:

Taco is not going to reimburse the financial loss, so the taxes will get higher in Germany.

Some way our another the German government will get there money back. And they are know to do that on the backs of the tax papers.

Ah cool, so I pay taxes now so these people have their money. But the US government refuses to end their shutdown, nice. I’m impressed and disgusted.

That is so stupid, I hate our government. They shouldn’t pay a cent.

    11. How is JD Vance gonna spin the idea of “Freeloading European nations ripping off the US for defence” now?

Oh yeah, he’ll tell a bunch of lies, of course I forgot!

What kind of employees are these specifically?

Berlin’s contribution is “a sign of solidarity with the US armed forces stationed in Germany and their civilian employees”, she added.

It’s pathetic for Trump if the US can’t pay its people. What a loser… The move is good, even if I don’t understand why or what the consequences are, because the whole thing is very complex. I don’t know the legal basis either, but can it only be social assistance? OR? So, Germany “would not pay”, but must pay??

Germany basically fronting cash for US employees while our government throws another tantrum? Yeah good luck getting that money back from the orange circus 🤡

Remember trump? if NATO does not pay, no protection. In this case we can offer the people a nice loan of 20% tax. Payable in 4 weeks.

Americas republicans are so pathetic that Germany has to step in to pay American employees in Germany. What a clown show

    16. Difficult_Camel_1119 on

They have German work contracts that do not allow stop of payment during government shutdown. In the past, US was paying even during shutdown. At least in Rheinland-Palatinate, payments to the individuals are done by the German state (ADD to be precise) and they get the money in one big payment from the US

    17. OddMoon7 on

I’m sorry but this is bullshit. Americans should feel the consequences of their actions. The fact that we babysit them through this bs is maddening.

    18. Butterfly_of_chaos on

I know this type of gouvernment payment usually from cases where a company goes bankrupt and can’t pay their employees anymore. Just saying…

(I know about the shutdown etc.)
