      Humphreys was a really poor candidate who did nothing to prove to the people of Ireland that she was the right person for the job.

      Fair play to Connolly let’s hope she focuses on her duties and represents us well over the next seven years, steering clear of any controversy on the world stage.

      Genuinely think the biggest reason she lost by such a margin is her voice is annoying. Couldn’t be listening to her for 7 years.

      Good on her for being a good loser though. Saying “Catherine will be and president for all and will be my president” is classy.

      If we want a united ireland lads, we just need to accept that once a year they build multi story bonfires with the sole purpose of burning the flag. No big deal at all.

      Genuinely fair play to Heather for being gracious in defeat. Some really nice words from her.

      That said – Simon Harris, FG & their director of elections should take a long look at themselves for running such a bitter, nasty and cynical campaign.

      It’s a public good that that strategy hasn’t been rewarded.

      They won’t look inwards – especially Harris – but they should.
