No class and very poor form by the Taoiseach. No leadership.

    2. StKevin27 on

First sitting Taoiseach to snub the President-Elect. Would he have done this had Humphreys won?

    3. rossitheking on

The man is an arrogant arsehole.

I hope big Jim O’Callaghan throws him out on his arse.

    4. Purple_Cartographer8 on

He’s such a prick. The sooner Fianna Fáil get rid of him the better.

    5. >Fianna Fáil TD Padraig O’Sullivan called for both the Taoiseach and Tánaiste to go to Dublin Castle to congratulate Ms Connolly on her victory.

      >“Both the Taoiseach and Tánaiste should be down to Dublin to congratulate her,” Mr O’Sullivan said. “You have to take the losses with the victories.”

Bad show when the Taoiseach is getting called out by a backbencher. This is really petty, pathetic behavior from Martin.

    6. Good … I’m happy that he’s setting an adversarial tone with the new president. Hopefully she takes his cue, and gives the same energy back to the FFG government at any and every given opportunity, and within the boundaries allowable in the constitution.

    7. ThreeTreesForTheePls on

Scanned the article briefly and it’s just saying a spokesperson for Martin said he won’t be there.

That’s all? Does he have a dinner to attend? Is he doing laundry tonight? Catching up on the telly over the weekend?

What kind of fucking dirty bastard is he to refuse being there without even giving a reason for his absence?

Those American tactics are here to stick around, aren’t they? Dirty from the get go and now just as bitter in loss. Disgusting.

That’s a poor decision from MM. Heather Humphreys reaction showed much better character, and that will be remembered

      https://www.rte.ie/news/presidential-election/2025/1025/1540587-humphreys-reax/

*Heather Humphreys has congratulated Catherine Connolly on “becoming the next President of Ireland’, saying the Independent candidate “will be a president for all of us and she will be my president”.*

Also, Simon Harris. *Mr Harris congratulated Catherine Connolly, saying “her success will be our country’s success”.*

    9. The leadership and statesmanship skills of a damp towel.

He’s nothing but an arrogant prick and with very little to be arrogant about.

    10. Specific-Volume118 on

If there’s one consolation FG can have with this election, it’s that at least they’re not FF

    11. brentspar on

It would be a clever move for someone like Jim O’Callahan to turn up for the announcement.

    12. Intelligent-Aside214 on

That’s petty snobbery. It’s democracy. You don’t always get what you want suck it up

    13. MotherDucker95 on

A petulant child of a Toaiseach that we have in charge, who quick to condescend and berate people for similar behaviour

    14. EmergencyPineapple15 on

Doubling down in the same behaviour than probably lost them a load of votes in the first place 🤌🙃

    15. This is very bad form for a sitting taoiseach, has this ever happened before?

    16. RealDealMrSeal on

Sure their horse was out of the race from the start

Why would he show up? Not like hes supposed to lead the country

    17. mindthegoat_redux on

      > “The leadership of both Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael need to be humble and understand why this happened,” Mr O’Sullivan said. “It can’t be the same old politics.”

Since when in the history of the nation have FF/FG ever been humble after losing any election? They make kissy faces to the winners and head back to party HQ to figure out how to undermine and harass whoever the winner is. Same old.

    18. LightLeftLeaning on

Maybe he’s preparing his resignation letter instead

    19. Ok_Magazine_3383 on

As per Gavan Reilly, this is no longer the case and he will now be in attendance.

    20. This is all very tacky and not befitting of the office. Whether you were a Connolly supporter or not, the way that the campaign was conducted and now this reaction is indicative of a lack of respect both for her and her supporters and of the presidency itself.

It’s quite disturbing that so many in FF and FG seem to think that anyone to their left politically is not worth is any basic modicum of respect. Like it isn’t legitimate to think differently than them.

    21. RomfordWellington on

Poor form. Even if he stepped down today, he’d still be seeing a lot of her, on both the Council of State and the fact both he and Connolly are elder statespeople.

You’re the leader of the country. Shake her bloody hand and get behind her.

    22. ResponsibleTrain1059 on

FF/FG embarrassed themselves with their carry on this election. This is a fitting way for them to conclude it.
