La valle dei 200 vulcani, una spaccatura nelle isole Eolie a nord della Sicilia dove le acque acide che sgorgano dai camini creano vortici oltre 100 metri sotto la superficie. ​ Questa tempesta capovolta è così corrosiva che un tempo i romani la usavano come stazione di pulizia per gli scafi delle loro navi.

      The islands are part of a system of volcanoes that stretch from Sicily to Tuscany and is created by the collision between the African and the Eurasian plates.

      Most of these 200 volcanic chimneys are found between the islands of Stromboli, Vulcano and Panarea.

      These chimneys emit sulfuric acid, CO2 and hot water which create acid water around them. Despite this, a lush coral forest prosper in these waters and host unique species, from a rare starfish to carnivorous sponges
