Provocative indifference is an oxymoron and Greece could have the marbles back as a loan at any time if they recognized British ownership.

“First world problems” don’t agree on Western values. Surprise, surprise.

Why is Greece trying to steal my culture?

Sadly Greece is in Europe, if they were stolen from an African country or some other place they would already be back accompanied by some cringy apology from their monarch.

The UK is imploding in every sense. In the not too distant future they will be forced to return all of their loot.

Obviously, the marbles should be returned. It is similar as with the Benin bronzes. This is not British heritage or culture.

Bonkers accusation. And won’t change anything.

Thugs gotta be thugs
The only surprise is how entirely tone deaf the British are over this issue.

I don’t really understand the issue. The politicians seem to be upset that some people sat near the statues and pink lights were used in the room. It feels quite performative.

It seems a lot of people here are proposing that every country should only ever have artefacts from their own lands and history.
Just like the ridiculous nonsense around cultural appropriation, this is a great idea if you want to close off cultures from one another and encourage ever greater isolation and ignorance.
If you want to progress the ideas of mutual understanding, empathy and cultural exchange you should really think these things through a bit more.

Truth is the greek government has no right to talk since they made a catwalk out of the Acropolis of Athens (disgracing other monuments as well), but the British museum indeed shows a lack of taste as well as elitism and overall a shameful display.

They need to get over it.
