It seems a fairly straightforward concern as to what’s causing the problem, then. The question then becomes, what’s causing the shortfall?
Additionally I also feel it somewhat ironic that a contributing problem to the situation is the mentioned familial breakdowns and abuse cases. I feel that perhaps, as a society, we are failing these people. Is this a problem that is necessarily something that councils should be charged to deal with, or is this something that can be addressed on a national level?
This is why Reform is gaining momentum – citizens who need help and support are denied it while the media is telling us illegal immigrants are being given hotel rooms. Obviously these issues are managed and funded by different bodies i.e. councils and the home office, but this fact is almost irrelevant as people often don’t look beyond headlines or understand how civic departments work. Everyone everywhere knows how hard it is to get council housing, yet all we read in the news is how easy it is for immigrants to be given housing and benefits. The optics are terrible and it makes people feel like their government is more concerned with immigrants than their own citizens.
