Perché i norvegesi non usano le serrande per i fumi? Come nelle “hytte” dove il riscaldamento è a legna. Si chiude la serranda della canna fumaria quando sono rimasti solo i carboni ardenti (senza fiamma) per evitare la fuoriuscita del calore. Quando non si utilizza la canna fumaria il calore fuoriesce ed è molto inefficace.

You achieve the same effect by choking the air coming through the stove inlet. I think that houses with a fireplace built into the chimney like that are very few and far apart. Most Norwegian houses are made from wood, not brick, so this would be more applicable further south, like Denmark maybe.
Open fireplaces pretty much always have this. And new, closed fireplaces often have adjustments for both the air intake and smoke outlet.
Closed fireplaces are made of thick steel that keep the heat for a long time after the fire has died out. And remember, when the chimney gets warm it radiates heat through the rest of the house as well.
And modern, closed fireplaces have built in ducts that recirculate the smoke to burn off any soot-particles that makes them even more effective
How do you know we don’t?
On the family cottage there are two levels on the fireplace.
I know for certain one is to adjust how much air that goes in and out, while the other lever is to adjust how warm you want it. We normally push them in after a while.
I honestly can’t explain it better than that!
It is not common to use open fireplaces in Norway anymore. I am not sure about regulation, but I would think that there are limits to stop people from closing it too soon or forgetting to open it making the house fill with smoke or carbon monoxide.
I’ve never seen a built in fireplace like that. Ours tend to be standalone.

You should never close it 100% unless the fire and coal is all burned out. You need the ventilation in order to maintain air quality. Without the draft the fire will use up the oxygen and particles will remain in the room and youll end up with a headache, worse case passing out

Closing that on coals in a fireplace sounds like a sure way to CO poison oneself.
