95 rescuers, 37 firefighting vehicles from four regions, a consolidated unit of the State Emergency Service (SES), a fire train, and robotic equipment – all were deployed to extinguish the fire caused by Russian drone strikes on oil tanks near Pryluky in the Chernihiv region.

      >“It was a huge blaze. Up close, it looked truly massive – in a bad way. The entire city saw the smoke and flames. You could really grasp the scale of this fire,” said Oleh Dakhno, commander of the 17th Fire and Rescue Unit.

Dakhno’s crew was the first to arrive at the scene after Russian drones hit the oil tanks on the outskirts of Pryluky around 6 a.m. on October 8.

      >“The Russian drone hit one oil tank, and its fragments damaged a neighboring one. I saw it when I arrived. The fire had spread to the containment area. Oil was leaking from the tanks. We were ordered to deploy hoses to cool the tanks and extinguish the fire using foam solution.”

They began fighting the fire about an hour later, once the security situation improved.

      >“We used a monitor nozzle for cooling, and a GPS-600 unit for extinguishing the oil products. It mixes foam concentrate and water to produce foam that covers the oil, forming a film that blocks oxygen.”

Thank you to all these guys: Dakhno, Khorta, Levchenko, to all the firefighters, rescue workers, energy workers, the men and women who keep the metro running, all who toil so courageously non-stop at every moment to defend Ukraine.

Edit: and extra thanks for the journalists and reporters of Suspilne and all the Ukrainian media for their ongoing work to tell the truth to the world at such great risk.
