Fuck this shit. If these chips are so important, why aren’t they making it here? Is automation cheaper in China?

    2. NocturneFogg on

If they’re hobbling the EU car sector while pushing their own EVs in Europe, time to apply on a countermeasure. Levelling the playing field and all of that…

Both sides have their point, nobody seems to.want a compromise. It probably won’t be solved overnight

Bloody Trump gets what he wants: European car makers on their knees. Good for china, good for the US.

      > move chip production to china to get more profit

      > geopolitical situation begin to went south, and china became independent power

      > find yours economic is being ass grabbed by china

    6. How did Dutch government did not think about it before stealing Nexperia?

    7. SpicysaucedHD on

Next time try to think when you nationalize a company just like that. Dutch government could have easily seen this coming, but they decided to do it anyway.

EU leadership is so incompetent (or corrupt) it hurts. It hurts the citizens.

    9. No-Estimate-1510 on

It’s a Dutch problem now. Dutch government seized Nexperia – EU automakers can ask the Dutch government for their chips 😀

    10. Bonkers that they took over the company but don’t have access to the factories. Maybe our leaders should think twice when they promoting the out sourcing of this type of work

Again caught with their pants down without a second supplier?

      Never learn.

    12. Same story as with with Russian oil. Why diversify? Let’s be dependent on single source. This pure Europe naivity and lack of any assertiveness is Europe downfall. It’s less and less relevant.

      Global free market is dead.

Netherlands govt just didnt give a shit it seems.

They were too busy with the elections. Or was it some kind of election ploy to make it look like they were hard on China. Is that what this shit was?

    14. Nice-Appearance-9720 on

Not a problem, Brussels and the Netherlands can provide powerpoint slides, their best products.

    15. slight_digression on

Those Nexperia shenanigans sure did secure European sovereignty.

This ” just in time” shipment system is absolutely dead. We need to go back to having a reserve of goods for this reason.

When they ask for handouts from the taxpayer, remember that the German carmakers alone paid out about 80bn to shareholders over the last decade or so, instead of re-investing even a fraction of that amount into things like chip-autonomy increasing measures.

maybe kicking Taiwan out of the UN and still ignoring Taiwan wasn’t so great after all…

Europe needs to make and follow its own geopolitical strategy and stop being the US’s little bitch.

Bad news for a few people, good news for the planet that needs to produce affordable food.

    21. antilittlepink on

Now with robotics, we should produce locally for consumers and cut China out of our supply chains and remove Chinese products from our shelves. Stop Chinese buying land in Europe because Europeans cannot buy land in China. Start with reciprocity

Honest question why are our governments so dumb? I understand the mechanics that lead to non-existent long term planning, companies offshoring “everything” for a good few quarters, and the dynamics at play that make our public discussion focus on bullshit agenda and topics that are irrelevant, but this type of decision and outcome is just complete incompetence. You would be fired (or worse) if you made this type of decisions at any semi competent firm, but these politicians simply get away with the most retarded decisions that don’t serve any European interest.
