Never heard of it.
But looking at *who* they were fighting against it makes some sense.
Less than 2000, consisting of various nationals (Poles, Rutenians/Cossacks, Serbs, Valakhians etc), mostly in the 1st Sultan Cossack Regiment. A good and well researched article is available in Przegląd Historyczno-Wojskowy 13 (64)/4 (242), pp 215-233 Polish armed formations in the Turkish army during the Crimean war 1853-1856.
