Another day, another non-article from Micheál Martin. Fianna Fáil’s presidential campaign was a flop, but he still won’t own it. Now it’s all “I didn’t pressure anyone” and “in hindsight, Billy Kelleher was stronger.”
Hindsight isn’t leadership. It’s spin. The “naughty list” denial? Please. The man takes credit for everything when it goes right and responsibility for nothing when it doesn’t.
No shit Mickey
> could have been ‘stronger candidate in hindsight’
Wait, could have been better… in hindsight? You think there’s any situation where running a thieving landlord would have been better than practically anyone else?
That’s damning Billy with faint praise
If I was Billy I’d have been absolutely raging at even proposing Gavin over him as a long servery party member.
How does he still have a job? He’s got nothing. FF are losers.
He needs to stop talking unless he yearns for the FF guillotine
Good lord, he smacks of such desperation.
Like the other day when he said that the people didn’t want to keep going over old ground (referring to the investigation into his party’s failed presidential bid) and just wanted to move forward. The people will tell *you* Taoiseach, what they want to go over!
No “mea culpa” from hard-man Mickey! Very mooted response from the flaccid Fianna Fail backbench minions
FF party members starting to understand now how the general public feels with tbe “better in hindsight, lessons learbed” shite. Music to my ears.
The funniest part of that interview was when he started talking about himself in the third person. It was like watching macho man Randy Savage cutting a promo back in the greatest days of the WWF
Billy “who?” Kelleher would never have won
What he is not saying is that Gavin was not a genuine candidate.
This was all done in concert with Fine Gael specifically so that Heather Humphreys would have a greater chance of winning. Gavin was not a serious candidate with wide appeal, but he would have gotten core FFers to come out and give Heather a 2. In debates and the campaign he would debate and contradict Connolly while leading the smear campaign and Heather would be able to sit back and hide out.
Michael Martin never had any intention to seriously contest the election, just to support Fine Gael. He has reduced the party into a support player that follows FG orders/
It would be interesting to know how far out from the election was Martin cultivating Gavin as his Presidential candidate. Like was appointing him to the North Inner City ‘task force’ and the Citizens Assembly a couple of years back part of that play?
oh and that ‘task force’ seems to have utterly failed, the Hutch-Kinahan feud might be over but the north inner city is still a mess.
I am so glad they fucked this up
