A man (term used loosely) Barry McDonagh found guilty of *17 counts of* raping his teenage sister-in-law is now claiming his conviction was “unfair” because the jury heard about his violent temper and wife-beating.

The cheek of trying to spin that as prejudice is unreal. He destroyed lives and now wants to hide behind legal loopholes. Absolutely disgraceful.

Just because he’s arguing this doesn’t mean the courts will necessarily agree with him. Why not wait for a verdict before deciding how outraged to be.

There is no need appeal sentences for scumbags, just get rid of them

This is why it’s important we have a system that incentives guilty pleas and not going to court. As much as commenters like to decry sentences which take guilty pleas into account, advertisal court, with appeals, should be avoided if possible in cases of sexual offenses. Thinking of the victim and having to go through it again.

“At the time of sentencing, McDonagh continued to maintain his innocence and remained married to his wife – his victim’s sister, who was in court to support him.”

Oh good, they’re both pieces of shit

Fuckers like him should get seven and a half years for every rape he committed, to be taken consecutively.
