There’s still a ton of far right votes, so whatever D66 is going to do, it better be successful.
Also maybe we can restrict or ban foreign social media and algorithms feeding our citizens ragebait all the time. Unfortunately it seems unlikely that’ll ever happen.

if the EU wants to do something to retain cohesion, reform migration treaties in such a way that asylum only remains a right for Europeans and a gift to bestow on others as national governments deem fit. Perhaps with an EU structure for providing local aid.
And remove all protection for illegal migrants and create a return hub somewhere not in Europe.
The EU has the deadliest border in the world because it has the dumbest asylum policy in the world. And the return rate for rejected asylum seekers hovers around 20%. Our asylum system is built on this and its kind of insane when you think about it.
Denmark shows that if you strictly limit asylum migration your populism problems never materialize in a big way.

The title makes it seem like moving to the center is a bad thing. Classic Politico bait.

If they don’t address mass migration, they’re just buying time until the far right comes to power. They should take a page from Merz and the danes

I’m sorry but “Yes, we can” is a slogan that mobilised people?
I can’t think of a blander campaign slogan than that.
Presumably if they *can* improve people’s satisfaction with the immigration situation then people don’t need to worry about the far-right.

Centre grew at the cost of left wing parties. Voters on the right mostly switched to other right wing parties, so the right wing barely lost any votes.

That’s a bit oversimplified imo. Yes, PVV lost 11 seats, but JA21 and FVD gained 8 and 4, respectively

Reading the headline got me thinking- can you be on the right wing and not be considered far-right or a straight up Nazi these days? Does this centuries old categorization make any sort of sense anymore?
