My mum used to be a solicitor at a university and she would always warn academics who wanted to work with Chinese universities or in China itself about their conduct and the risks of working with them. Chinese academics would always pressure British academics to push the boundaries of legality and ethics, so my mum was always warning staff that what they were after was not feasible and their request would need to be altered if they wanted it to be cleared. She would also warn them that the university would not drop everything to help them if they got into legal trouble in China. Chinese universities love us for our facilities, finances and the quality of our researchers but they will expect everything to be done their way. Any university that works with China in any capacity is doing so while doing all it can to appease their government.

This is what happens when a university is corrupted from the inside by Confucius Institute funding.

The Institute is a moral and intelligence hazard and must be booted out of UK academia. It is nothing more than a trojan horse for the CCP to exert pressure.

there is a super common theme irt UK and China relations.

It all goes swimmingly until the UK investigate human rights violations, upon which China cuts them off.

It’s happened several times in the past, and frankly, we should stick to our guns on the matter.

Honestly, I’m really sorry about the lack of bots/trolls in these comments. China needs to up its game- nowhere near the amount in any Russia-critical article.
