The thing about Yates is, his entire media personality is about being a chancer. He makes jokes about it all the time. It’s a reason he’s wheeled out at so many events to MC them, he’s a bit of a joker who knows he’s part of the joke.
Why the heck they were hiring him to coach people from the Taoiseach on down raises more questions about FF than Ivan Yates.

This isn’t surprising at all
Media training has been going on for decades and it’s always going to go on
I used to do a side gig working on it in the mid 90s and it was always pretty well known journos and broadcasters doing it.
The politician/CEO/celebrity is given an “invented scenario” and the broadcaster grills them on it and then gives feedback afterwards and tells them where they fell down
The politicians weren’t the core demographic though. There’s way more of it for CEOs and Charities etc
After seeing certain CEOs getting prepared for questioning about scandals that broke a few months later, it was pretty unnerving to see a charity CEO getting prepared for questions about Irish charity workers getting murdered in Africa and the middle east
Anyway long story short, a load of them do it and always have done it and everyone knows

Yates isnt the only RTE or Newstalk presenter with a sideline in media coaching. They might not all do politicians but there are a fair few of them at it.

John Lee the editor of the Irish daily fail needs to be called out next.
His wife is a FF senator. She was made a senator by Michael Martin twice. After having failed to get elected in successive GEs.
He continuously harps on about the opposition and berates them yet curiously goes easy on Fianna Fáil – anyone wonder why?
