Apologies if you can’t get behind the FT paywall. Here is a short summary:
* Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has offered to bring forward parliamentary elections due in two years, in an apparent concession to widespread anti-government protests that took place over the weekend. “Elections will be held before the end of the term” in December 2027.
* Vučić said in a news conference late Sunday. “The exact timing will be decided by the competent institutions.”
* Tens of thousands of Serbs took to the streets over the weekend to call for snap parliamentary elections over what they perceive as a corrupt and increasingly authoritarian regime.
Serbian here. He is lying as usual only to buy points with foreing press and watchers and more time to organise more criminals and thungs to harras civilinas. Don’t trust a singe word he says.
There are NO “competent institutions” since he is a de facto dictator and controls them and most legacy media plus various criminal and para-military organisations.
We’ve been protesting for over a year and in any normal country he would have stepped down or the afformentioned institutions would have impeached and arrested him.

Genuine question as I have no clue about this: are Serbian elections rigged? Can’t imagine the EU accepting that. That would really surprise me given how closely the Hungarian one is watched for example.
And I mean “rigged” in genuinely rigged, not “old people are stupid and believe the propaganda” etc.

He didn’t offer anything. He just said that trying to calm down the protesters. The next day he sent armed criminals with criminal records to threat, intimidate, beat, and throw cannon fire called pyro bombs to protesters.
