21-year-old infantryman Maksym, with the call sign “Korshun,” captured an enemy soldier, held his position under fire, and has been nominated for the Order of Courage.
When the Russian-Ukrainian war began, he was only 11 years old. The occupation of his hometown became one of the reasons Maksym decided to join the army. In 2022, he applied to the military enlistment office but was rejected because of his age. When the “18–24” program was launched, he seized the opportunity.
Frontliner spoke with the young soldier to learn what it means to fight when most of your peers are still students.

Oh man, trying not to cry at work. I hope the rest of his life is peaceful and happy. Side note, but the photography for this piece is really great.
