      > “But the thing that has shocked me most of all is that the rising tide of racism and the way in which kind of 1970s, 1980s-style racism has apparently become permissible again in this country. I’m really shocked at the way this is now impacting on NHS staff,” he said.

Well, they feel like they have a free pass, what with them having major newspapers and nationalistic blowhards egging them on.

My dad was racially abused by a patient and family while he himself was a patient. Actually he was in neurological recovery after a brain tumour was removed. The day after his op he woke to hear the man in the bed after him calling him a white cunt. Accused him of being kaffir and all sorts of awful shit. When the man’s wife arrived she said loudly on arrival to her husband, ‘who gave you your bath? Was it the n*gg*r or the k*ke? ‘and talked to those nurses with undisguised hatred. It was fucking terrible. After I heard the man’s son’s saying more things about my dad, i told the matron and said I’m calling the police if something isn’t done.

The man’s family were in attendance (9 visitors at once despite limit of 2) and ignored visiting hours unless security physically moved them out.

The hospital fixed the problem fairly quickly by giving that man a private room so he and his family could be disgusting in private.

Genuinely the most disgusting racists I’ve ever seen or heard. Pakistani family in Salford for reference.

The staff were terrified to do anything despite being fully aware. They hadnt a clue. One of them told me this was pretty much a regular thing. This was about 8 years ago.

The ugly racists from the 70s and 80s are now insufferable boomers. They didn’t stop being racists, they just stayed quiet under the system we had. And now, with Farage and the rise of the far right, and Musk and Meta fuelling their shit, they feel emboldened as ever.

“Streeting added: “I had a Labour [MP] colleague whose daughter – a resident doctor – works in a hospital where a man said he only wanted to be treated by white staff.”

My personal view is that you should be treated by whoever is available to treat you when your presenting problem falls under the remit of the available clinicians’ expertise.

But I do think it’s a bit rich to say white people can’t desire to be treated by other white people of a similar culture, whereas the inverse is often actively encouraged.

One of the marketing strategies of DEI is to increase representation so ethnic minorities can be treated by someone of a similar background.

Race consciousness goes both ways. It’s either equally racist or perfectly acceptable, which is it.

Phew I hope no labour party has been using reform-esq rhetoric against migrants in a cheap attempt to win votes. Who would ever think that such a strategy would backfire

I’m glad labours suddenly realized “tell your base to fuck off and beg for votes from people who hate you” might not be the best play, but it does feel like as long as we have reeves, streeting, mcsweeny, and starmer I can’t really imagine a u turn people have faith in.
