RTÉ keeps chopping off useful body parts like documentaries and young people’s programming and RTÉ Junior Radio to keep big wages for execs. Maybe sack Dan Healy from 2FM and use his obscene salary to keep the documentary department going on a skeleton crew.

“meet the needs of our audiences” – what a load of shite.

    3. Mmm yes it actually seems pointless to have state funding for investigative documentaries now that I think about it……..

Ye are upset, but most of their good quality docs are just commissioned from the outside, and at this rate I don’t think RTE should be producing anything but the news in house. Just provide the publication infrastructure and fund independent studios (like Blindboys, which actually wins awards)

Was the tracker mortgage thing on Monday a product of this department? It was infinitely more watchable than the repeats of Mrs Brown. It’s actually shocking how many repeats are slipped into the schedule in the evenings on both channels.

Basically this is part of a move to a commissioning house – like TG4 or Channel 4 for that matter. It’s a way of reducing costs and overheads. That would appear to be the direction people want RTE to go…
Whether that’s positive or negative … time will tell.

I’ve heard top ten earners are now all management. Wonder if they could even put a good instagram reel together with their combined talent.

They’ll be saying Where in the World is axed next. Thank God we still have Winning Streak with Marty at least.

Give the money to TG4, they make much better documentaries.
