La riapertura del corridoio ferroviario occidentale è stata salutata come una giornata storica per l’Occidente

Delighted this is going ahead. Its a stupid waste of money, but probably won’t cost that much and its nice to see something I can actually use from my tax money rather then just thrown in a fire which is what it feels like at the moment.
What exactly makes it a ‘corridor’?
Great stuff. Would be stupid not to extend it to take in knock airport while they are at it when (and if) relaying the line to Sligo.
Imagine being able to get a train from Sligo or Galway to the airport???
Now we just need Canney to deliver on the Galway ring road as he promised…
Excellent, but too bad it’ll take so long.
Great to see stuff like this. A nice few things in the pipeline now.
Thank God they’re not making it into a Greenway like some eejits suggested. Now the next question is, will Knock be the first airport in the country with a rail connection?
Nice to see it with proper trains this time though! Running it with noisy commuter DMUs made it very unappealing
I think it is interesting how Irish Rail has been able to progress (or start to progress) some of these more marginal routes like this and Foynes, largely by sidestepping most of the processes that one would expect a large infrastructure project to have to go through e.g. planning.
At the same time a lot of the big commuter stuff, like Dart+ or the Cork Commuter stuff, have been delayed for years. The more obvious comparison is probably the Navan line, where the railway order has now [been delayed another year](https://www.meathchronicle.ie/2025/11/03/off-track-railway-order-timeline-for-navan-rail-line-moved-out-to-2027/).
25 years later
“We are just awaiting a report to begin works”
Lots of fucking talk about plans and meetings about meetings. In my 30 year lifetime, the only capital project delivered was the Luas, and that’s still not finished to original spec. Tis a bit early for the lads to be buying votes though so there’s a small chance
Coming from the GDA I’m hugely supportive of this and hopeful it won’t be delayed unnecessarily. We really need to stop talking about infrastructure and start building it nationwide. I even feel like a Ballina to Sligo spur is a bit of a missed opportunity.
We need more of this! Great news.
Is it me or is there fuck sll infrastructure projects of any decent scale going on in the country? We need alot
Shuttle bus from Claremorris to Knock airport would be transformative
How long before it’s closed down again?
So what. Give us a tram to Terenure and surrounding areas already, we may as well be out in Mayo it takes so long to get into town by public transport
This will have a super positive impact on the awful traffic coming into and out of Galway every day. Super news.
Can they also reopen the Navan to Dublin line while they’re at it?
They need to push forward from Claremorris to Collooney, the track is already there it would just need to be relaid.
Nevermind the environmental benefits or access to Knock airport if its reinstated but also the N4 from Sligo to Galway is an absolute disaster. Having the train would relieve traffic and avoid accidents/deaths
