This is genuinely really good news and should be celebrated as such

That’s not the general vibe that I feel so it must be wrong!

I’m not being glib here, but what actually separates “deadly knives” from regular knives you can buy in Ikea, or any other retailer of basic household goods? How can knives being “taken off the streets” really mean anything when they exist in virtually every kitchen in the country? Why are we having “surrender schemes” for products that can be legally bought and sold?

This press release mentions “ninja swords” and “zombie knives”. These are purely cosmetic descriptions. The only thing that separates a “zombie knife” from a regular kitchen knife is tackiness. There is no difference in lethality or potential for misuse. It’s essentially passing a law against having bad aesthetic taste.

Knives aren’t guns. Most people don’t own guns and don’t have any need for one. There are strict licensing requirements to own one legally. Most people use a knife on a daily basis. It’s somewhat absurd, almost insulting, when the same language and framing is used for both. I’m sorry, but I just fail to see what any of this is actually supposed to accomplish.

Surely this can’t be possible? I thought Labour were failing in every single part of governance?

      >The figures come as knife homicides have fallen by almost 20% while knife crime overall has fallen for the first time in 4 years, dropping by 5%. The latest admissions data for NHS hospitals in England and Wales also show a 10% fall in admissions for knife assaults.

Yet another illustration of how stupid austerity is, because the knock-on effects of the Conservatives “saving” taxpayers’ money on one public service (in this case, policing) results in increased expense for taxpayers in another (in this case, hospital admissions).

People are going to cry about this but the clamp down on drill music and drill artists has definitely positively contributed to this.

Blow to Rachel Reeves as knife industry threatens to reduce staff as number of stabbings down.

Considering there’s been yet another stabbing in Portsmouth today, I can’t believe this.
