Sto prenotando un posto in un viaggio ICE. Voglio assicurarmi di essere rivolto nella direzione di marcia perché mi vengono le vertigini quando è il contrario. Capisco che l’ombra più scura su ciascun sedile è dove poggia lo schienale. Ma come faccio a sapere in che direzione sta viaggiando il treno?

You don’t. And depending on the trip, the direction of travel can change. I recommend taking dimenhydrinate before your trip.

You can check vagonweb, it mostly works for me. Have in mind that at some stations the train change directions (like Leipzig or Muenchen Hbf). But vagonweb also shows that.
I sincerely wish this was noted when booking seats.
It’s easy. The lower numbers are always on the right. The higher numbers on your left. If it is the other way just turn around to fix that.now that you know where are the lower numbers you can use your dice to chose whether the lower numbers are in direction of travel or not.
I learned this trick from a friend who is working at Deutsche Bahn.

Don’t reserve a seat and sit down in the correct direction. There are train stations where the train reversed so you might have to change.
