Why are they not checking also PAYE records?? Because that should be the most basic things to cross-reference.
I fully understand the need for wanting to crack down on fraud but it cannot be at tje expense of inncocent families being denied what they are entitled to, then having to prove their innocence because of botched HO records.
Is the next thing going to be HMRC people suspecting fake children because twins have the same birthday or something?

Also highlights how utterly clueless we are at knowing who’s in the country. Even if you are here, presumably paying council tax etc they still don’t seem to know. No wonder it’s easy for someone in the grey economy to disappear.
