*Whenever* I travel, there will come a point where I have to conserve battery. It seems like lunacy to deny people the option to have a paper backup.

They’re still just going to be scanning the QR code on the “digital boarding pass”. There’s absolutely nothing the prevents someone from printing it other than policy.

It seems pretty strange. It’s just a barcode/QR code. Whether it’s on your phone, printed on paper, or lasered onto a honeydew melon shouldn’t matter as long as it scans.
      What am I missing here?

I don’t get what the issue they are trying to solve is?

I understand that there was a cost associated with them having to print people’s boarding pass but I always liked to be able to print it off if I was travelling with someone else for work or that id just print them off for convenience.

I don’t understand how it slows anything down?

This is probably just a way to make more money by making people pay a fee for not having the digital pass. I would think?

Non issue for me, whoever I’m travelling with had a copy of my boarding pass and vice versa in the rare scenario our phones were unavailable.

I haven’t had a physical boarding pass in years. Is this new?

You can print it out, it’s just you can’t get the standard boarding pass printed at check in desk.

To be clear, the change is online check-in only

Cashless/paperless society. This is the plan and there’s no going back

This is terrible news especially for older people who don’t have smartphones, or tablets

Actually they’ve already said that if your phone battery dies, as long as you’re already checked in, you can go to the check in desk and have a boarding pass printed free of charge. There’s no need to panic and there’s also no need to print it yourself.
