The problem is, even if he agrees, you still can’t trust that he means it.

      Russia “disarms”

      We disarm for real

      Big problem

    2. scarnegie96 on

And that’s how you showcase in one statement that you aren’t fit to be the UK Prime Minister.

It’s like the greens live in their own fantasy utopia, and they are fundamentally incapable of understanding that people have different views on the world than them, or are willing to act in ways the greens view as “bad”.

We don’t want nuclear power – well in the real you’ll be stuck relying on dirty coal power to provide the grid with its base load of electricity.

We don’t want nuclear deterrence – oh you think you’ll convince the world primary imperialist power (mid-war of aggression) to de-nuke themselves?

Get fucking real, and understand the real world we live in.

      >Zack Polanski Aims To Convince Putin To Disarm Nukes

It’s good to have aims in life. I personally aim to convince Thandie Newton to lie naked on my bed covered in maple syrup.

I fancy my chances with Thandie more than Zack’s with Vlad.

    4. Cyber-Gon on

What he actually says seems very reasonable – he doesn’t think it’s likely, but that it would be “sociopathic” behaviour to not try and negotiate with other prime ministers / presidents.

    5. OliM9696 on

Good fucking luck, we got Ukraine to disarm and they got invaded. Russia wont do the same.

Russia media presents it as western aggression in Ukraine after their nuclear disarm, a Russia disarm would serve no purpose to it. It’s not fighting for peace.

    6. caneverant on

If he manages to do that, the real problem by then will be in which constituency he wants Putin to stand for. What a lad, so regarded!

    7. trefusius on

This is the classic nonsense headline that appears whenever the papers can’t report what a left wing politician actually said because people would agree with it.

That we should try to negotiate with other governments on some of the most important world matters, and try to avoid the possibility of nuclear war, is not an extreme position

    8. rystaman on

And all of these comments show why this country is fucked. Media creating a story out of complete nothingness. He said we’d keep what weapons we need, but said he would never give up on diplomacy with anyone including Putin…

    9. your-rong on

So, basically he doesn’t think it’s likely to happen, but believes it’s still something to strive for. Not the worst take I’ve heard.

    10. FuriousSpud on

Worth a go. Worse case scenario, he could give him a cracking pair of tits.

    11. Peterwhite100 on

Would only work if USA disarmed & its dog leg in the Middle East.

Since that will never happen, due to them being warmongering animals, then Russia certainly won’t and quite rightly!

    12. uknihilist on

Never in a million years will I vote for them but I really admire them. They’re honest about their policies, which is refreshing

    13. ClockOwn6363 on

Its the ‘nukes’ that are keeping world peace right now!

Does he not realise that Putin would’ve been pushing into Europe years ago along with an alliance of China, North Korea ect, NATO’s nuclear deterrent is the reason it hasn’t happened. Would anyone be stupid enough to believe Russia wasn’t hiding a stockpile even with a deal. 🤪

    14. Thebritishdovah on

Putin will just go ” You first.”

      And we won’t.

Putin threatens nuclear war to please his supporters as he knows, if he launched a nuke, he is fucked.

    15. Min_sora on

He’s literally just saying what his job would be. “Putin is a psycho nutjob who will never listen to me unless he’s hearing exactly what he wants to hear and so I’m not going to bother to try” is not a thing a decent Prime Minister will ever say.

    16. Putin would eat this cunt for breakfast and ask for seconds, an absolutely deluided fool.

    17. limaconnect77 on

Extremely naive…and yet, chances are enough full-grown and educated (perhaps even ‘learned’ and cultured) members of the electorate will vote for these muppets.

Which, of course, has the potential to open the gates for Reform.

    18. Nob-Biscuits on

The amount of resources that go into something that is highly unlikely to be used and if ever was would destroy the planet is tragic, it’s time humanity grew up. Let’s have a nuke free earth.

    19. New_Teacher_4408 on

Zack Polanski must have a great crack cocaine dealer!

    20. doubleohsergles on

Sweet. And after that he can convince Xi, Modi, Kim and whoever the hell is in charge of Pakistan.

    21. No_Poet_1279 on

Every fucking time these idealists reveal their hand they only show the world how utterly useless they would be if they ran the country.

The only way is down with these fuckers.

    22. TheCharalampos on

Negotiation is the thing countries do to each other to get stuff done. Apparently that’s a bad thing according to the media.

    23. RightTap1906 on

Breaking news, Putin has agreed to disarm nukes! (small writing) on condition rest of world does it first, Putin pinky promised.

    24. KnightChameleon on

The title is so clickbaity and misleading. Poor journalism from Kevin Schofield from the Huffinton post.

    25. Darrenb209 on

If he somehow magically succeeds, I’ll praise him.

But he won’t. And wouldn’t even if he became PM.

Even if Putin wasn’t an imperialistic dictator with a long history of lying and manipulation and even if Russia hadn’t made enemies of much of the world, nuclear disarmament is an everybody or nobody position… and it would be a failure of leadership to assume everybody would do it.

Reducing numbers of nukes is entirely viable when dealing with a reasonable person, complete disarmament just isn’t. And, at the end of the day, Putin has long since shown that he *isn’t* reasonable.

He can call it sociopathic all he wants, to refuse to negotiate with Putin. But negotiations with those who only act in bad faith is just appeasement: They’ll take what they want out of it and break their promises anyway. We learned this a *long* time ago and it’s naïve to think things have changed that much.

    26. _Monsterguy_ on

I’ve got some magic beans and a magnificent set of clothes to sell to Polanski.

    27. Remarkable_Doubt6665 on

Oh, another naive western politician who thinks he can negotiate with a failed, cynical dictator. The age of innocence is over! How hard is that to understand?. West and Russia realtionship, unless Putler falls, will never be the same.

    28. Wart_Time_L32 on

He’ll be defenestrated before he agrees to any dis-armourment.

    29. Scary-Spinach1955 on

Putin doesn’t even know who you are mate, calm your row

    30. FeigenbaumC on

      >The Green leader said: “Well you could have laughed at the point of Nelson Mandela negotiating with the ANC or we could have laughed at the Irish during the Troubles.

I’m a little concerned by his examples here. Nelson Mandela negotiating with the ANC? The group he was part of in the fight against Apartheid and became President leading? And “The Irish” to refer to the negotiations with the IRA/Sinn Fein and other groups during the Troubles doesn’t show much for his understanding of the conflict and those negotiations.

    31. shrewd-2024 on

What’s more scary is the amount of people on this website think that Zack Polanski is fit to even be a politician. Or taken in any seriousness whatsoever.
