      Back in 2016 the comments were good, but now it’s a shit show of bots.

      Best they they can do is stop all comments now.

      The Journal is one of my usual “quick scan of the headlines, maybe skim an article or two” sites a few times a day. 

      Infinitely better since I used a custom element hider rule in ublock to disappear the comments section, so I’m not even tempted to scroll down into that fucking swamp of humanity.

      Its going the way of the RTE comment section, I remember a time you used to be able to comment on [rte.ie/news](http://rte.ie/news) . Sad really, the bots always win by shutting down discussion. I don’t know why they cannot just have a forum backend and I am sure a few volunteer mods will look after it, rather than the free for all. Even at a minimum, at least bring back the negative/disagree button to silence the lunatics.

      For anyone whose frequented this sub for a good number of years, we used to have a batshit crazy very frequent commenter, whose username started with missD. Eventually she disappeared from Reddit but I regularly see her making batshit comments on the journal (under a different handle).

      So while there may be plenty of bots, some of those lunatics are actually real people.

      Used to live in Dublin 8 beside Michael D.  Our kids went to a Deis School.  Never once did he call in.  Would see him drive past in his limousine and Garda cavalcade while we were cycling.

      I respect his comments on Gaza but not exactly a president of the people of Dublin.

      Why pixelate the name if we can just go to The Journal and see it? I do agree with you by the way, not about the bots but that this is a terrible comment!
