  1. PoppedCork on

I get why people are celebrating the end of blanket pet bans nobody should have to give up their dog or cat just to find a place to live. But it does raise an awkward question: who actually carries the risk if a tenant’s pet causes chaos? There’s no proper pet deposit system, and chasing compensation through the RTB can take months. Landlords are expected to just “trust” that people will be responsible but not everyone is.

If the State wants to normalise pets in rentals, shouldn’t it also bring in some kind of shared protection like mandatory pet insurance or a pet bond?

  2. Long overdue.

Hopefully this will be rolled out first and is the start of a suite of measures to ensure that tenants are treated like adult human beings and not just pay pigs.
