    To clarify, Pedersen suggests the effect is not causal (not because alcohol directly improves the brain) but rather that drinking (especially in social settings) may be a “marker of sociality” and thus linked to social networks or behaviours beneficial for career/education.

  4. TLDR for wannabe alcoholics. It’s not the drink. It’s the socialising that goes with it that gets you promoted. Locking yourself in your room with a bottle of whiskey isn’t a fasttrack to success.
