No country used to come even close to Ireland, and now there are multiple who are catching up and Sweden who have matched them. Goes to show how bad Ireland have been for decades now

I love how the 1989 Yugoslav win is considered a Croatian one. It was indeed.

Hard to believe four of those Irish wins were between 1992 and 1996. That kind of streak is wild.

Every year Finland is hoping to win and then gets disappointed that we didn’t. I’m not sure if it’s just because we would like to be better than the Swedes or do we actually think we’re so special that we should be doing a lot better than is statistically expected.

Finlands win was by far my favourite.

Wish Jury wasnt a thing or reduced to 10% vote power, sucks they always exclusively vote for generic song.

      small corrections: Austria 3 (not 2), Russia 1 (not 0), Switzerland 3 (not 2).

And to explain the central-eastern emptiness – these countries could join only after the fall of communism (except for Yugoslavia that joined in 1961) so they entered when the competition was already pretty high. It started with just 7 countries in 1956 (NL CH BE DE FR LU IT) to continue with 13 in 1960, 1971 – 18, 1980 – 19, 1990 – 22, in 1994 seven Eastern Block countries joining and making it 25, 2010 has already 39 competing in semifinals, 2020 had 41 (cancelled – Covid), this year – 37.
