According to IMF projections, by 2030 Poland’s GDP per capita (in PPP terms) may surpass that of New Zealand, Israel, and Spain, and reach about 98% of Italy’s level and 97% of the United Kingdom’s.
PPP is really bad metric of wealth. It fails for everything besides neccesities and very basic services (and even there it is not very accurate) and neccesities are less relevant, the wealthier country is.

PPP but still its really a great way to show just what advantages the EU brings. Without the EU transfers and investments poland could have never achieved this.

Considering the history of Poland in Europe I’d say they deserve their spot in the limelight. Stay strong Polish brothers!

Poland and the Czech Republic may have lower GDP, but the quality of life is already better there than in the UK or France. They are also very safe places with good culture, healthcare, food and nature. Is that not worth of earning 10% less? Czechia ranks in the top 10 safest countries globally and they want to be in top 10 countries for quality of life in 2030..
Czechoslovakia was an industrial powerhouse of Europe in the 1930s, with forward looking modernist architecture and culture. Now, the Czech Republic is steadily regaining their former prominence.

We’ll see. Currently the EU is subsidising their economy, approximately 3% of their entire GDP per year. They are by far the biggest beneficiaries within the EU, and have been for well over a decade. The goal is to do what we did with Ireland in the 90s and get their economy spinning. Them being the best of the old Soviet block and ripe for growth makes them a great target. I think this is what the EU is all about and how we should use our EU funds.
Hopefully it works and they can start being a net benefactor for the EU in the future. I would assume these EU funds they are receiving have an effect on their growth projections.

You can literally see on the plot when they got rid of the russians and then growing at an even better rate after joining the EU.

All numbers aside, it’s easy to see the growth with your own eyes. I had a 6-7 year gap between my last two visits and the change that Poland has gone through is incredible. Even my small town where I grew up in has changed so much that at times I didn’t recognise which parts I was in.

Unfortunately GDP doesn’t necessarily mean more money for the regular people.
