L’Italia sta lavorando per adottare una tassa sui pacchi postali di basso valore provenienti da paesi extra-europei, come parte delle misure per proteggere l’industria della moda dalle importazioni estere a basso costo, principalmente dalla Cina

As Italian I approve this measure. Many (cheap) products are flooding the European market and we need to protect us
Oh fuck this! They want us to buy local expensive shit? Could they raise salaries then and provide affordable housing so I have money for local expensive shit?
Edited to add: who are they kidding about local being oh so much better, the local stuff is also mostly produced in cheap factories abroad by underpaid workers, they just then mark-up the prices in European shops.
They are basically stopping us from buying for cheap from places they themselves buy from for cheap.
Great! I’ll now buy the same pair of Chinese shoes from Deichmann, but more expensive for no fucking reason.
They hurt the poor because the ritch buy from malls, don’t order from Shein or Temu. Always the poor get screwed over.
It’s not going to work, they will lower the quality and sell it for the same pittance and people will continue buying it.
Just received my first order from Temu. Never ever. Spent small amount of money – but small amount on something that went straight to the garbage is way tooo expensive. I could have just taken the money and throw it away. 🙁 It’s probably a roulette – but I’m probably not going to take the risk next time..
Are we really acting like people need 30 €.50 t-shirts to live
Poor people are not allowed to order from China, that right is reserved for companies who import/produce goods in China and sell them as designed in Italy with italian production costs, meanwhile italian wages are laughable while the rich keep on accumulating wealth.
Save the fashion industry my ass.
Europe wants to impose a €2 tax on small parcels, but I don’t see how that will stop people from buying. I would have done what China did: impose a 30% tax on all parcels.
Just fucking exempt secondhand clothing from VAT if you want to be efficient
It’s about time
I have no idea why more euro nations haven’t done this.
But if I buy the same products from Amazon for twice the actual value it’s fine though
Rich people don’t want working class to buy less expensive things in fear of losing some profits? How unusual…
As it should. Our fashion industry is pretty much one of two, maybe three profitable industries that we have left.
And also tax those cheap tropical products like bananas. They’re threatening our apples.
Tariff good? Am I visiting a parallel reddit?
People are mixing a few different things here. Since 2021 every parcel into the EU pays VAT, even the tiny Shein/Temu orders – the old “under €22 = no VAT” loophole is gone. What does still exist is the customs duty exemption under €150, which is what lets ultra-cheap platforms flood Europe with millions of small, duty-free parcels while a Deichmann-style importer pays normal tariffs on big containers from China.
Italy’s new levy is basically trying to claw back that advantage on low-value direct-to-consumer imports and protect local industry, including the boring mid-range brands that already pay duties when they import in bulk. You can still say “this helps retailers more than poor consumers”, but it’s not like Deichmann magically dodges tariffs while only Shein gets taxed – the structure of how the goods enter the EU is different, and policy is now catching up to that.
People that try to defend this tax are strong nationalists that believe everything they hear , that China is bad , on the news financed by some unnamed billionaires that also are owners of some and almost all so called ocidental online stores , that by some fu**ing irony of destiny sell the same exact products that the same Chinese sellers sell, but by a enormous margin of profit, while the Chinese sell for much cheap and still have considerable profit for them and the platform where we buy said product. We already pay VAT isn’t that enough.
A lot of butthurt people here who just outed themselves as being against environmentalism.
Do you really need that Chinese knockoff pair of sweats from Temu that is not tested for anything, very unethically and unecologically made (with a lot of waste that doesn’t get recycled), causing the destruction of the local economy etc? If you care about your health you wouldn’t even order anything from there. EU regulations are a thing for a reason. Not to mention the awful conditions those things are made in and the pollution such high volume shipping causes.
Tell me one thing you simply can’t live without or can’t find in your country that you need AliExpress and Temu for? A new phone case? they will still be there if you need it, just at a normal price point.
I have NEVER ordered anything from those and I’m alive and well. You don’t need it. Stop being dramatic.
Okay, who’s protecting the customer from overpriced items then?
So
Is it non European or Non EU
Cba reading the article
I thought Europe was against tariffs? I guess if tariffs are good for Europe they are also good for everyone else right?
I still want zero for zero tariffs. Just open Europe up to everything. Stop being cøwards!
Excellent begone with this garbage.
Oh so now tariffs are good? I thought only evil orange man uses tariffs.
Tax the rich
