I’m as cynical as the next guy when it comes to the governments usual waffle but I’m can’t believe this is what they’re coming out with now. This is crazy.
They can’t make the yearly targets so they’re getting rig of them but at the same time saying they’re going to build 300k houses in the next 5 years. Maddening.
I hope people get out and start protesting now, they clearly don’t care.

Do you think Martin even bothers to update his speeches for these things? Just dust off what he said about progress but needing to do more quicker from 2022 and go again. Harris probably just copied down what Enda said at the Rebuilding Ireland launch ten years ago.
Nope. The target is 300,000 by January 2030, which is the latest that another election can take place. No ifs, and or buts. The end.
If they wind up on 35,000 this year, then they have 49 months in which they need to build 265,000 housing units – 5,5000 monthly, and 65,000 annually.
I know RTE, IT and co will soon be happily trying to convince us that this is normal and acceptable, and within a few months will entirely abandoning referencing the 300,000 figured **the government promised as a central policy**, that’s a given. But we can not continue to stand for this, unless we want a severe and horrific backlash from the multiple generations we are fucking over for literally nothing but our own greed and lack of civic responsibility nor social decency.
This would make sense if their plan was to stay with the low numbers for 2-3 years while they put the mechanisms in place to build 50-100k in a year. But that’s not what they’re doing.
Can I just follow their lead and get rid of any targets in my job now?
