This is a terrible idea probably cheaper too invest in new nuclear.
They need to focus on the bureaucracy. The fact that every Bundes state has its own rules and safety standards stops my company from providing cheaper battery energy storage solutions.
Why can’t they focus on that instead?
This is a mistake and a sign of economic weakness. You want higher energy capacity in order to make this sustainable. In three years when this expires you either got back to square one or have to renew it. I think redditors tend to oversell nuclear in most cases but for central Europe it is likely the best option right now for most energy usage. Most of the process starting at refinement can be done in Europe safely and cost efficiently. Fuel can be acquired from various countries including African countries that are open to working with the EU. It would mean building a supply chain from Africa to the EU, that means foreign investment and maintaining relations.
Nothing will change, it’s all so stupid. There are simply huge structural problems: an aging society, wages have stagnated since 2019, rents are far too high, businesses are laying people off, forcing them into basic income support, which the government has now significantly tightened, arguing that they’re all lazy, but the economic situation is simply bad, people are being laid off. The main thing is to kick downwards. No ideas, no visions, because the politicians are afraid, afraid of losing their power, so they just slap a small band-aid on a gaping wound. While the middle class is bleeding dry because several tax increases are due every year, look at the current long-term care insurance and health insurance contributions. While people suffer from high electricity costs, industry gets coddled. The economy will only pick up when the people have more money in their pockets to strengthen the domestic economy, but even that is being taken away from us.
Of course, our minister for energy is a former gas lobbyist. This government is beyond terrible, it’s hard to put into words.

If your business cannot keep up it deserves to fail. Actually let’s just prop up business on the backs of the countries citizens. I’m sure those business will sure lower their prices since the citizens kept their factories lights on right?
Wait. What about all those huge farms with wind turbines and solar panels? What about the free energy from the wind and sun? Didn’t it help? No way!
Let me call the natural gas companies in Houston, double your price and charge them 10X the Russian price, they would have to agree otherwise double again, then again until Germans agree to pay whatever amount you demand, they are less humans than the US and you are told by god to reap every penny from them until they die!
Joke aside, in Feb 2021, Texas based companies spot price for electricity went up 100,000% a few hours after blizzard, causing people to freeze and die, surely you won’t mind charging the German 10X the Russian and Arabic price!
And then complain France “subsidies” nuc’ power. I mean… That’s the price you pay for short term thinking.
How about investing in some energy sources that help in lowering electricity bills?

The most annoying thing (for me) in German bureaucracy is the missing communication between state authorities and digitalisation. That could safe so many steps and speed up a lot of things.
Is the problem really that “energy is expensive” though? In my experience it’s a combination of things like too much paperwork, slow processing times, inefficient organization structures (too decentralized in key aspects), unreasonably high payouts at the top, no vision for future developments/prospects and so on.
You can legislate for some of these, but to some degree you just gotta let the market cannibalize *unviable businesses* and make space for the new to take their place.
