Seems he was drugging sweets to knock them, and other responsible adults, out for six while he abused them.

Long long sentence hopefully coming his way.

He’s 76 years old so hopefully any sentence he gets will be a whole life tariff.

More charges will be incoming as victims come forward. He’ll likely spend the rest of his live behind bars. Horrible.

      >Ruben played a “sweet game” with the children, Mrs Prior KC said, in which he would go into the boys’ rooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to eat sweets “as quickly as they can”.

      >She told the court Ruben had played this game with the boys “for many years”, and children had previously fallen ill the following morning.

      >She said Ruben had been able to explain this away as the children being “overwrought by enjoyment”, until his stepson had concerns in July 2025.

He’d been getting away with it for years and would have continued to if not for his stepson.

      >Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, outlined Ruben’s offending to the court.

      >She said his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp that he ran.

      >”The defendant, for at least 27 years, has run a holiday camp,” she said.

      >”There is a long history of children feeling sick at the camp over many years.”

But because he was a “pillar of the community” no one thought to question boys regularly falling ill the morning after taking sweets, even from a simple health concern for their teeth?

The pattern as ever is vulnerable kids being preyed upon and systems failing to protect them. because we don’t really care about child safety in this country, we just like using them to make laws that suit agendas rather than effect real change.

You can safely bet he has assaulted dozens, if not hundreds, of boys this way if he has been running such a camp for so long.

    7. The local paper has more details, which are completely depraved:

A man has admitted to a string of offences, including multiple counts of child abuse, after a number of children fell ill at a Leicestershire summer camp. Jon Ruben drugged multiple young boys with sweets to knock them out before choosing youngsters to sexually assault, court was told.

Today (Friday, November 14), Ruben, of Wayte Court, Landmere Lane, Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to 17 counts, including sexually assaulting a child under 13. The 76-year-old also admitted assault by penetration of a second boy and cruelty to eight children in total at Leicester Crown Court.

Leicestershire Police had been called and alerted to concerns about Ruben’s activities at Stathern Lodge, near Melton, on Friday, July 25. However, they only attended after being called a third time on Sunday, July 27, by which point a number of children at the camp had fallen ill and were drowsy and vomiting – with one being completely unconscious.

Mary Prior KC told the court: “The defendant, for 27 years, has run a holiday camp for underprivileged, socially deprived children. He has been the leader of that using, his job as a teacher and role as a senior member of the church to run youth clubs, evening classes and Sunday schools from where he selected which children [would attend the summer camp].

“There’s a long history of children feeling sick at the camp at Stathern Lodge where they rented accommodation.”

She said Ruben would often be responsible for putting two rooms of boys to sleep at night. After they had their pyjamas on he would go into the rooms with sweets that he had injected with tranquilizers.

Mrs Prior said: “For many years he played what he called the sweet game with the children.”

The game involved all the boys being given sweets and told they had to chew them and eat them as quickly as possible.

Mrs Prior said: “The purpose of drugging them was to sexually abuse the ones he picked and ensure that the others were asleep so they wouldn’t witness it.”

Court heard that police had found drugs, vaseline, baby oil, sex toys and syringes at Stathern Lodge, along with three sweets that had been injected but not yet used.

Mrs Prior said the boys who took part in the sweet game “found it difficult to wake up” and said that their speech “was slurred”, while the youngsters were also sick.

She said: “They were all really very unwell the following morning. One of them couldn’t be roused at all. They were all vomiting.”

All of the victims were medically tested and urine and blood samples were taken. Two boys were found with injuries relating to sexual assault and the others had drugs in their systems. One victim was so unwell he was rushed to hospital for treatment, while four more were also taken as a precaution.

Mrs Prior said the drug used was commonly known as “liquid Xanax” and was possibly made using drugs obtained illegally by Ruben.

She said: “The consequences could have been damage to the heart and death.”

Child abuse videos and pictures were also found by police in a search of Ruben’s electronic devices, including boys as young as six being abused.

      Ruben pleaded guilty to:

Sexual assault on a child under 13
Assault by penetration of a child under 13
Eight charges of cruelty to a person under 16 years
Three charges of making indecent photographs of children
Acquiring Temazepam, contrary to Customs laws
Three counts of possessing class C drugs – Flubromazolam, Diazepam and Temazepam
Ruben is due in court for sentencing at a later date.

Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Holden of Leicestershire Police said after the hearing: “This has been a horrific, complex and emotional investigation involving multiple young, innocent, vulnerable victims and a man who committed the vilest crimes.
