Protest is legal, and inconveniencing people to draw attention is part of it. Don’t agree with the message at all, but we need to be able to signal dissent.
I trust you asked the same question during the innumerable Gaza protests.
Inconvenienc ordinary people that have no control or say in the whole thing. Go protest a politician
Are they going at least 50kph? If not, the Guards should surely be arresting them for failing to adhere to minimum motorway speed…
Is it legal?
This happens every couple of years.

Pisses me the fuck off.
Protest the Government, dont ruin everyone elses day dealing with their own problems and issues.
Bunch of wankers.
These same people protesting would be complaining about the commute if they worked.
The virgins are at it again.
Hmm…I think the Garda is there to prevent that “concerned citizen” from getting the “help” he needs from another driver…..
Pretty common, you’ll see tractors doing it semi-regularly.
People sit on roads to highlight climate change.
People recently blocked the Dublin tunnel to highlight the genocide in Gaza.
I have never really got the point of blocking roads, feel it’s a great way to turn thousands against you. I suppose some of these anti immigration protests have had so few people show up at their marches, this way they can cause a large disruption even with just their 5 or 6 people.
Anti-immigration protests with the Guards escorting a car with English plates. I cannot wait to grow old with these people, I’m sure it’s going to be so much fun.
Was it legal to block the docks
Probably safer and better than a high-speed pursuit protest, also an ideal opportunity to nab any folks chatting away on their phones while driving a car.
Legal or not, the kids gloves will be out to deal with the “concerned” as per usual
Protesting like this never ever works and at best it puts those on the fence against them. If you are going to have a protest do it in the Aras, government buildings, Leinster house or homes of politicians, as long as it doesn’t affect those who work for a living!!
What’s the thing with this anti immigration protest? They hate like illegal immigrants? Or like everyone like any eu, students etc
I watched an interview a few years ago with the Just Stop Oil protestors, where the journalist asked something along the lines of “why do you inconvenience ordinary people, why not protest the oil companies or politicians?”
And the protestor listed nearly a dozen times they’d done exactly that in the last year; blockading oil facilities, chaining themselves outside parliament, blocking lorries and ports etc. All of it combined got a couple of national news articles, I’d never heard about any of it. And the oil companies and truckers just called the police, and worked around the protestors.
But block a major road or throw soup at a Van Gogh, and you’re headline news.
The worst outcome for a protest is that you get *ignored*. Protestors do this because it works. It gets attention and media coverage, a lot of it negative but it raises awareness of their cause.
(Disclaimer: that goes for good and bad causes, I certainly don’t agree with these fools)
Surely you have your answer depending on how the Garda have responded?
Not remotely those signs could easily fall off and cause a hazard.
It’s illegal, very illegal.
Garda should just arrest all those anti immigration troublemakers.
Slow would be something they hear a lot
Do you not see the police escort right in front of you?
Similar to when the Palestine protesters were blocking the port tunnel at least they haven’t blocked off traffic with this one.
I don’t block them from picking up their dole, why are they allowed to fuck up my day?
Pro-russia folks do it on the M50 sometimes, cars covered with the various flags & ‘Z’ iconography. No Garda escort for them though.
If it’s legal for Palestine, climate change and whatever else then it should be legal for these twats.
If there’s one thing that will definitely get Irish people on side it’s snarling them up in a massive traffic jam on the N7 for a few hours on wet day … people are usually very calm and understanding about that kind of thing…
Yes of course it’s legal
It’s dangerous driving not a legitimate protest
Haha gas. When I complained about being inconvenienced by Palestine protestors blocking up the road near my house I was downvoted to oblivion for having the audacity to complain. Which is it r/ireland?
Interesting. Every time there’s a protest about something human right related, the scumbags come out in force and say things like ‘have you no job to go to’ (it’s mostly weekends or is an intentional strike protest) or ‘I can smell them from here’.
But they seem ok when it’s them protesting because they don’t want to share.
Protest that invconveniences no one isn’t protest. I don’t agree with this one, but many people in the country don’t agree with the things I protest for (an end to the slaughter of innocents/profit from it, etc), so… I dunno. Yes, protest is legal. If nothing else, the govt needs to address the issues that are making these lovely people feel the need to protest. I’ve no problem with immigration, but housing needs to be managed, lots of stuff needs better management.
It’s a pity Liverpool or Man UTD aren’t playing today .
I think it is fair to say Irish people love mass immigration. Who does not want car park motorways and no housing for actual Irish people. Keep it coming lads.
