A train can run through more than one network. You can use it up to the border of the network and then need to buy a ticket for the rest of the journey.
It most likely only has to be not a high speed train => So no IC/ICE/EC
You should be fine with the RE train
Regional trains often pass several networks.
Bielefeld is part of Westfalentarif, a ticket for VRE will not cover your journey. Just get a regional ticket valid from the last stop in VRR area to Bielefeld in addition to your match ticket
From Düsseldorf to Dortmund it’s in the VRR region and between Dortmund and Bielefeld it’s WestfalenTarif.
Where the train starts or where it ends isn’t relevant for these regional trains, what is important is which regions *you* are traveling through.
As you have free access to the VRR network, you’d only have to pay for the part of your journey outside of the VRR network.
Your Ticket will be fine in Gelsenkirchen and Düsseldorf.
When you take the RE 6 to Bielefeld, you will need another one (Dortmund to Bielefeld).
Ask at the counter, sonetimes there is an “Anschlussticket” possible, or maybe an “2 hour- Ticket” .
Maybe a full- day NRW Ticket might be even better.
