None of the things pointed out in that article tell me the president is right in his concerns but I’m not familiar with the Polish communist party…

So Poles, is your communist party actually dangerous in some way (beyond “they’re communist and he/I don’t like communism”)?

    2. No-Tomatillo3698 on

It’s al performative bullshit by right wing conservatives. Over here these grifters outlawed Antifa, an organization that doesn’t even exist. Imagine being against people who are anti fascist.

    3. Square-Confusion-789 on

Congrats to Poland I hope Serbia do the same one day

    4. Correct_Ad_1820 on

Communists should be banned from politics on principle.

    5. fianthewolf on

If the furthest to the left that has votes is Lewica and it is nothing more than a light social democracy.

    6. PolishNibba on

It’s monumentally stupid, especially that the actual, rebranded Polish United Workers Party is currently in the government, hell, they used to have a majority and a president at one point.

    7. Unexpected_yetHere on

The Polish Communist Party (founded in 2002) has:
      >denounced Euromaidan and the Revolution of Dignity as a fascist act

      >supported the existance of the so-called Donetsk PR

      >hailed Stalin as a liberator and praised Kim Il-Sung

      >supports the corrupt Maduro regime that is impoverishing Venezuelans

      >supported Milošević’s wars of genocide against non-Serbs

      >calls for the abolition of NATO and dismantling all NATO bases

      >wants Communism, so in support of a failed, disgusting system that brought suffering to many nations, including Poland itself

      >is actually conservative and has had ties to the extreme right (you, the lads more right-wing than Konfederacja even)

All in all, a bunch of traitors and hostile agents. Ripe for helicopter rides, not simple banning.

    8. airhome_ on

      Perhaps performative. But why not.

The counterarguments against doing it aren’t strong. And its probably the symptom of a mind virus if you are instinctively against it. The rational response is “If you really think this is the best use of your time Mr President, I have no objections, please go ahead”. Ironically, if you are against the current President you should be happy the time he spends on this wont be spent on other projects.

Its not the worst idea to clean up the petri dish incase something eventually grows out of it. And if you argue against it, when someone tries to outlaw a legitimate political party you’ll be written off as “the guy that didn’t want to ban the communists” when really you just couldn’t resist being triggered.

If somehow someone started the Polish Nazi Party, I would be fine with shutting that down even if it only had 5 members.

    9. WorldlinessRadiant77 on

I’m tempted to quote one Polish mercenary regarding the humanity of communists.

      Overall a good decision.

    10. johniebuoy on

I’m pretty sure that all polish constitution prohibits totalitarian parties.

    11. TheSpaceDuck on

Nawrocki is an idiot and I normally wouldn’t agree with him, but even a broken clock is right twice a day. This is one of those times.

A communist party should never be allowed in Poland for the same reason a Nazi party should never be allowed in Germany. Ask any Pole who has lived through communism and they’ll tell you exactly that.

And don’t even get me started on said party’s connections to the Kremlin (yes I know they’re not the only party with such connections, but nobody with a brain will cry when they’re gone).

    12. matt-travels-eu on

Finally! Commies out! This is not a country for fucken communism. We went through that.

    13. But Poland’s real problem is the prorussian Confederation party, which wants to destroy the EU, support Russia, destroy Ukraine, and the whole shebang.
Their leaders are members of the group that fought in the Donbas war from 2014 to 2022.
But the president loves the Confederation very much.

      > The shining example of Free Speech
      > Ban the ideological opposition

    15. Gustav_Sirvah on

Party that – I remind you – mean nothing.
Also it’s low key histeric because original KPP was victim of Stalinist purges. That’s why power after WW2 was not in theirs but PZPR (Polish United Worker’s Party) hands…

    16. deniss2334 on

😂😂 communism is the issue right now, not the extreme violent far right groups ahahahah

    17. The_memeperson on

Congrats to Poland for trying to ban a party with less than a 1,000 members

      What a nothingburger

    18. Realistic-Berry_888 on

I didn’t even know we have a Communist Party in Poland

    19. Does he mean Soviet style conservative communists or everyone else who is left to him?

    20. wojtekpolska on

It’s an irrelevant party that has never gotten even a single person into either Sejm, Senate, nor even regional assemblies.

they are literally completely irrelevant, not even starting in elections because they can’t get enough votes to put even a single person in office. (they tried to sign up their people trough other parties but failed)

    21. kfijatass on

Pure propaganda move, there’s no communist party of any notoriety.

    22. Awesome, it’s not like we have any other more important issues he should focus on.

    23. GrannyFlash7373 on

That would be a prudent move, but they will just go underground.

    24. Delmarquis38 on

I found it fascinating how eastern European country feel the need to reaffirm their loyalty to liberalism and capitalism. They make me thinks of overzealous believer that just converted to their new faith.

    25. Flat_Square_8047 on

They’ll just change their name but keep their ways. In Moldova pro-russkis are called whatever you want: communists, socialists, alternative, democrats, sovereigns, neutral. It don’t matter what they’re called, what matters is what they do and what they stand for.

    26. Kool_aid_man69420 on

Liberal democracies will complain about communist states banning liberal and capitalist parties and then ban communist/socialist parties in the same breath. At this point ideological consistency doesnt matter, just play dirty.

If they are so hell bent on democracy and liberty why not ban the far right? Maybe because they arent a threat to capital?

    27. Meh, this is a microscopic party. Still, it should not have been allowed to exist in the first place, so sure, go ahead. 👍

Hopefully our president is similarly keeping watch on a certain far-right party that is currently surging in popularity in Poland! 😇

    28. Happinessisawarmbunn on

Just pick a damn side, I don’t want to hear anything else. It gets tiring that a common sense decision has to be analysed to death. It should’ve been done a long time ago and now it’s done. Not going to discuss this…

    29. midcentralvowel on

Didn’t even know we had one lol, but ofc populist president gotta manufacture outrage daily.

    30. Trotsky_Enjoyer on

Banning it isn’t gonna achieve anything, especially since the CPP probably isn’t even revolutionary in any way.

    31. EmrysMyrdin on

A party that no one has heard about till now, with maybe 0.1% of support in the populace. Just a PR move that doesn’t really do anything.
