In questo giorno del 1920 la Società delle Nazioni si riunì per la prima volta a Ginevra. Un secolo dopo, alcuni chiedono che il suo successore, l’ONU, ritorni su questo terreno neutrale

*In September 2025, the possibility of moving the UN General Assembly to Geneva was discussed after the US denied visas to the Palestinian delegation. A significant number of members suggested relocating the meeting to Geneva.*
*Current status: Despite renewed calls to relocate in 2025 after Trump taking office and the visa denials, the UN General Assembly has not yet moved to Geneva and did not announce any plans to do so. The UN’s main headquarters remain in New York.*
*Geneva has nevertheless become a significant location for the UN, housing its European headquarters and numerous other UN agencies, programs, and funds.*

Doesn’t matter, both of them were/are useless…

The deal was to have the UN on US Grounds or the US wouldn’t join just as with the League (Another US innovation), that was the attitude of 1945, and it does not belong in Europe, maybe Uruguay, the Bahamas, or Mexico, but should be a place where the people genetically come from all over (Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas). Also neutrality is silly, just ask Belgium, The Netherlands, Denmark, and Luxembourg how Neutrality went and why they are not neutral now. If this was a serious proposal the obvious answer would be Costa Rica as the ONLY nation to abolish having a military.

League of Nations was totally irrelevant. UN has now also become irrelevant, so it doesn’t matter where it seats. It was only relevant as long as there existed countries who were ready to spend lots of money and also send their soldiers to risk their lives defending the decisions of the UN. Now it’s back to the right of the stronger. Look at the massacres in Soudan for example – it’s not a nuclear Russia, one doesn’t have to fear a WW3 or something. Yet nobody (capable of sending enough forces to stop the killing) wants to give himself trouble. Which means UN-based post-war world order is OVER and UN importance, such as it ever existed, is over with it.

The League being in Europe made sense because the world’s major powers (who would be the ones actually giving weight to anything the League did) were mostly in Europe.
That is, to put it mildly, no longer the case.

It definitely shouldn’t remain on USA soil. It is abhorrent that it will remain there, and likely the only way to get them to leave would be for Trump to kick them out, which is always a possibility.

Too bad it is becoming irrelevant and nobody cares about the UN.

The US is quickly becoming a pariah. The UN should leave.

No one can argue that America is a neutral location. I think Geneva would be perfect in that sense.

We have come a long way the creation of the UN, a world government, WHO for combatting diseases & ICC for prosecuting war criminals but a lot more is desperately needed.

Would be poetic as the UN of today has become just as useless and irrelevant as the League of Nations was. A hollow palace for a hollow institution.
Tbf it’s not entirely the UN’s fault for the way things are going now, a lot of it has to do with the world’s great powers just don’t take it seriously, and that has an effect on the UN that means nobody else takes it seriously either.

Geneva is not neutral, it’s on the side of (criminal) money.

UN is a teethless paper tiger, good for jothing but annoying the west by begging for our hard-earned money in an attempt to give it to those who will never contribute anything useful to the world

I’d prefer Luxembourg, but Singapore is much more realistic

The UN in its current form is extremely corrupt and most of the funds end up being spent on various programs which its only purpose us to siphon money.
UN needs to burn to the ground and something so something new can take its place
